#1142 WHITMAN MAJOR MATT MASON COLORING BOOK
Copyright 1968--first year available 1969

One of my favorite Major Matt Mason items as a kid, I remember coloring all over in this cool book. I don't know what ever became of it. Anyhow I'm looking at my current copy as I write this text and it just brings back a lot of memories. The cover is a beautiful painting of all three of my favorite MMM figures. Major Matt Mason, Sgt. Storm and the mighty Capt. Lazer. Each wielding a weapon, Major Mason and Storm armed with roto- jet guns and Lazer firing his cosmic beacon. I think this has some of the most outstanding and colorful graphics of all the Whitman products.

The coloring book originally sold for only $29 cents and featured 95 pages of drawings by artists Dan Spiegle and Al Andersen. The cover in fine print states "Major Matt Mason" is a registered trademark of Mattel, Inc. for it's DOLL. Used under license from Mattel, Inc. An Authorized Edition. This is repeated on the inside front title page, which also reads; Copyright 1968 Mattel, Inc.--Whitman Publishing Division--Western Publishing Company, Inc., Racine, Wisconsin--Produced in the U.S.A.

The storyline introduces a strange new alien race who had built a space station of their own on the lunar surface! These alien's described themselves as “Outcasts from Zycron” and took Major Matt Mason and Sgt. Storm captive. After a speedy trial, they were sentenced to death and only a timely rescue from Captain Lazer prevented their demise. Great fun!

There are some more cool scenes of Space Stations, vehicles and interiors of structures that we never see with the toyline. A must have adventure.

For those collectors who haven't yet added this book to their holdings, we've prepared a special treat. Les Rayburn has scanned every single page of this wonderful book for everyone to download. Then you can color them using your computers paint and color programs, or you may print them out and color the old fashioned way. Thanks again Les, for bringing back yet another scarce adventure for us all to render in the world of color.
